Here is an insight to my experience and some advice I have for choosing the Family Homestay Option during your time here in Barcelona.

Costa Brava Spain’s Hidden Gem

Excursions|

When we first arrived in Costa Brava early on a sunny Friday, I was in awe that a beautiful oasis existed so close to the busy chaos that is the city of Barcelona. As a result, it only took me a couple of minutes after setting foot out of the ALBA van to truly appreciate the serenity and peace that can really only be found in nature.

Cooking Classes

In these hands-on cooking classes, you will truly discover the local cuisine!

With the guidance of our local cooking teacher Chef Mariela, you will have the opportunity to create, cook, and eat traditional Spanish and Catalan dishes. At the end of each class, you will enjoy the dishes that you have prepared in a friendly and casual atmosphere! Classes take place every other week and are taught in English, with an opportunity to practice your Spanish as well, putting your language skills to good use in the kitchen!

Chef Mariela

“Hi, My name is Mariela, I am the Chef here at ALBA.

In my Spanish Cooking Classes, you’ll learn how to prepare some of Spain’s most delicious traditional dishes: patatas bravas, tortilla española, croquetas, and more.

I’ll be there with you every step of the way teaching you everything you need to know to be confident in the kitchen: From how to hold a knife to the story behind Valencia’s famous Paella. We’ll be sharing tips along the way and what’s most important is that you’ll have the chance to taste each meal you prepare. Are you ready? Let’s get cooking!”

Favorite dish to cook: A classic homemade pasta with red sauce and basil, my 90-year-old Italian neighbor taught me how to make this dish so it holds a special place in my heart.

How would you describe yourself: Free.

Someone you admire: My Grandfather. He used to cook a lot, most of my passion for food comes from him.

Favorite place in BCN: The Gothic Quarter but especially PORK… boig per tu which is an incredible restaurant.

Favorite saying: You don’t need a whole lot to be happy, there is so much happiness in freedom.

The thing that you can’t live without: My dog, Pongo.
